We have fished the Salt from Panama to Alaska for the past 30 years and have picked the best locations and the best Hotels to provide you with the trip of a life time.
Your hosts, Mike Rieser, Larry Henderson and John Matson are veteran working fly fishing guides with over 30 years of experience fly fishing saltwater, including trips to the Baja since 1974. In addition, they're avid fly tiers and rod builders, and have taught numerous classes/seminars on various aspects of fly fishing. Fly fishing was relatively new on the East Cape when we began. In partnership with the Van Wormer family, Baja Flyfishing Co. has developed an ongoing training program with the captains and deckhands working out of Palmas de Cortez, Playa del Sol and Punta Colorada. The Baja Flyfishing Company has now expanded its travel options to include Loreto, San Jose Del Cabo in Mexico and to Guatemala. East Cape The East Cape region of Baja is one of the most productive and scenic fly fishing destinations you could desire. Located at the mouth of the Sea of Cortez, East Cape puts you at both the beginning and the end of the migration pattern. The prize targets of marlin, sailfish, tuna, dorado, roosterfish and wahoo move north in the spring and back south in the fall. These species are all catch-able on flies and each one is truly an experience of a lifetime. There are also snapper, cabrilla, bonita, sierra and many other fish that inhabit these waters year-round and provide great excitement and excellent fare. Loreto If you are looking for quaint, quiet and quality fishing, try Loreto. Located about 350 miles up from the tip of Baja, Loreto is nestled at the base of the Sierra Giganta mountain range and flows right down to its own natural harbor and estuary. It is the home of the first mission established in Baja and of the first Spanish settlement over 300 years ago. Loreto has its own airport with direct flights from the U.S. daily. The dorado fishing in Loreto is a must from June through September. And for a real challenge, try landing a Yellowtail on a fly when they start to surface in late March and April. San Jose del Cabo We added San Jose del Cabo to our list of destinations for some very good reasons. It is a beautiful town with lots of history, great little restaurants, shops and golf is close to Cabo (for those who want some night life or a serious shopping spree). Our main reason for picking San Jose is the fishing. During the winter months when the winds get a little tough in the Sea of Cortez, fishing the Gordo’s can offer the best chance for wahoo, sierra and striped marlin as well as many resident species which are always fun on a fly. Guatemala Guatemala the heart of the Mayan world. Discover the land of eternal spring. Experience the wonders of this diverse land. Guatemala is a study in contrasts. Volcanoes that reach over 12,000 feet, beaches covered by black volcanic sand on both the Pacific and Atlantic Coasts, lakes inside volcanic craters, raging rivers, luscious rainforests teeming with exotic plants and animals. Add a day of inshore fishing for roosterfish, mackerel, snapper, snook and other inshore fish. Bird watching up the Chiquimula River. Guided private tours to: Antigua Guatemala, Tikal, Lake Atitlán, native American marketplace in Chichicastenango, jade fields of Zacapa, etc. Take an extra day to play a round of golf on one of Guatemala's private courses. Stay at a private house with maid/cook, stocked bar (national drinks) and refrigerator. A Saltwater Fly Fishing Seminar
