A couple of weeks ago a diver in a boat got stopped by the F&G at Davey Boat launch in Long Beach and look what they found!!! I counted 34 Lobsters total and at least a dozen of them were short!!! The guy was only out for a half a day! Kiyo Baytubers.com
TubeDude, They are catching them by Kayak hoopnetting them. My buddy has been getting 7 legals a day from his Kayak. The F&G officers may have taken his boat and gear??? Not sure because we left them for some fishing. Kiyo www.baytubers.com
Hey, Kiyo. I'm betting you are as jealous as I am of those "bugs". I was also a diver in my former life (Californian). I had a lot of days I worked hard to scratch a couple of legals...and truly enjoyed the feast afterwards. Besides being a lawbreaker, that guy is good...or lucky...or good and lucky. I'm glad they nailed him but I would like to know where he dives. If he is that kind of diver, he probably raided some traps. If so, he is lucky that just the officers got him and not the trap owners. They get nasty when you steal their income. I used to dive off the beach at the "Horse Ranch" area, upcoast from Laguna Beach. I was snorkeling for halibut one day, during lobster season, when I heard a boat coming in close. As I stuck my head up out of the water I was staring into the barrel of a rifle. It was one of the lobster guys, and if I had had any lobsters in my goodie bag I would probably have been shot. Fortunately, I was quite a ways from any of the floats, so I was able to convince the guy I was not a trap poacher. He explained that he had been losing both traps and lobsters to theft, and was just about over the line for legal remedies. Good pic. Did you shoot it?
